Burners for special fuels

SBE burners for special fuels are designed to harness difficult-to-manage resources such as coke oven gas, exhaust gases, process residues and biomass.

The objective is to transform waste and by-products into useful energy, minimising environmental impact and procurement costs.

These systems stand out for the robustness of their materials, flexibility in adjustment and the ability to ensure flame stability even with low-calorific-value fuels or fuels with variable composition. Burners for special fuels represent the ideal solution for plants that want to combine sustainability, cost savings and operational safety.

Coke Oven Gases (gases derived from coal distillation)

SBE burners are designed to ensure flame stability and safety, even under low-calorific-value conditions and with flow rate fluctuations. Thanks to advanced regulation systems, it is possible to maintain high performance and reduced emissions.
Coke oven gases are derived from the distillation of coal in coking plants (facilities for coke production) and exhibit high variability in composition, with the presence of hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide.

Examples of fuels:

  • coke oven plant gas
  • blast furnace gas
  • steelworks gas

Wood dust

Wood dust is a widely available biomass, but difficult to handle due to the risk of blockages and particle size variability. SBE burners are equipped with dedicated feeding and combustion systems, capable of ensuring a controlled flame, reducing the risk of deposits and improving energy efficiency.

Esempi di combustibili:

  • dried sawdust
  • wood processing dusts
  • joinery residues

Waste oils

Waste oils represent an often underutilised energy resource. SBE burners are capable of handling spent oils from industrial processes or post-consumer collection, ensuring safe and controlled combustion. Through advanced atomisation systems, a stable, low-emission flame is assured, transforming a problematic waste into an energy source.

Examples of fuels:

  • spent oils from mechanical processing
  • regenerated vegetable oils
  • oily refinery residues

Lean gases

Lean gases are low-energy gases characterised by a low calorific content. Combustion of these mixtures requires very accurate control to avoid instability and flame extinction.
SBE burners adopt dedicated geometries and reliable ignition systems to ensure safety and operational continuity.

Examples of fuels:

  • diluted biogas
  • sewage treatment gas
  • landfill gas

Heavy fuel oil

Heavy fuel oil requires dedicated pre-heating and atomisation systems to ensure complete and efficient combustion.

SBE burners for HFO (heavy fuel oil) are manufactured with components resistant to high temperatures and corrosion, ensuring long service life and consistent performance even under demanding conditions.  They are the ideal solution for plants that need to exploit economical but complex-to-handle fuels.

Examples of fuels:

  • heavy fuel oil (BTZ, LSFO)
  • petroleum distillation residues

Peat

Peat, used as a solid fuel, has variable moisture content and a heterogeneous composition. SBE systems are designed to optimise the combustion of pulverised peat, with solutions that ensure stability and reduction of dust emissions.
This approach allows a locally available resource to be exploited in certain markets.

Examples of fuels:

  • dried natural peat
  • pulverised peat

Waste gases

Waste gases from industrial processes may contain impurities, pressure variations and irregular composition. Our burners are designed to make use of these flows, reducing energy waste and cutting harmful emissions. The use of waste gases contributes to sustainability and economic savings, reducing dependence on traditional fuels.

Examples of fuels:

  • refinery gas
  • residual gases from chemical and petrochemical processes
  • synthesis gas (SynGas) derived from pyrolysis

Agricultural biomass

Agricultural biomass offers a renewable and sustainable resource, but presents challenges related to moisture, ash and chemical variability.
SBE burners are custom-designed to adapt to different types of biomass, ensuring efficiency and compliance with environmental regulations. This solution allows users to reduce costs and ecological footprint, making use of by-products available locally.

Examples of fuels:

  • hazelnut shells
  • olive pomace
  • cereal husks
  • shredded agricultural residues
